Car loan calculator FAQ

Is car financing flat-rate or reducing balance?

In Malaysia, traditional car hire purchase uses FLAT RATE — interest is calculated on the original principal across the entire tenure. This makes the effective annual rate roughly double the headline rate (e.g., 3% flat ≈ 5.5-6% effective).

What is the typical car loan tenure?

Standard: 5-9 years (60-108 months). Banks rarely offer beyond 9 years. Longer tenure reduces monthly payment but the flat-rate structure means total interest paid grows fast — be cautious past 7 years.

How much down payment do I need?

Standard: 10% of OTR price. Some banks offer 90% margin, some only 80%. The calculator assumes you input the loan amount AFTER down payment.

Are insurance + road tax included?

No. The calculator shows only the bank loan instalment. Annual insurance + road tax + JPJ fees + service costs are separate ongoing expenses you must budget for.

Do you provide car loans?

Bank financing is usually the better option for car loans (2.8-5.5% flat rates). For specific situations a personal loan can serve as a deposit top-up — see our personal-loan calculator.
